Fill your cup with eco-friendly hydration

A great way to celebrate Earth month is by honoring our most essential natural resource by the one and only Mother Earth: tap water. At Your SoCal Tap Water, it’s no secret that we are big advocates of tap water. Not only are there multiple cost benefits, but they’re also big environmental advantages of tap water, especially when compared to bottled water.

Reducing your waste: Although plastic water bottles are recyclable, technically, they are not always recycled properly and can end up in our watersheds – a problem now (trash) and problem later (microplastics). When plastic breaks down, it degrades into microscopic pieces, hence the name microplastics, and in this tiny form, plastic is not easily removable from our water sources or environment. Microplastic can stay in this form for long periods of time and affect our ecosystems. Read our previous blog sharing more details about the impact of microplastics. This affects not only humans, but it also has ripple effects to wildlife and the Earth itself. Whenever possible, we encourage the use of non-plastic refillable water bottles, and the use of tap water to reduce environmental microplastics and enjoy the safe tap water delivered to our region’s customers.

Investing in the surrounding environment: All our member agencies are committed to protecting the Santa Ana River Watershed, a 2,400 square mile habitat. As just one example, Orange County Water District (OCWD) has preserved more than 200 acres of its own land for community access through a public trail system. By recognizing their interconnected service areas, our member agencies ensure that our shared watershed is thriving. Every customer supports the efforts of their water agency, OCWD as just one example, by using our water resources wisely.

Learn more about OCWD’s environmental stewardship efforts by visiting their website.

Making the switch from bottled water to tap water is an easy change that has lasting impacts on the environment. From removing waste to preserving the surrounding environment, we encourage our customers to celebrate Earth Month every month with tap water.
