School may be out for summer, but your tap water report card just arrived. Each July, water agencies release their Consumer Confidence Reports, or as we like to call them, “water quality report cards.” These annual reports offer a clear snapshot of what’s in your tap water, where it comes from, and how it compares against strict State and federal safety standards.
These reports reaffirm water agencies’ commitment to transparency – keeping you informed about your drinking water, so you can continue making tap water your go-to beverage.
Not familiar with Consumer Confidence Reports? Catch up here with our previous blog to learn why these reports matter.
Now, let’s take a closer look at the numbers and how to make sense of them.
Opening the report, you’ll find information about whether the origin of your tap is sourced from groundwater, imported from outside your service area, or a mix of both, giving you a complete picture of your water supply. Taking a deeper dive, you’ll find tables showing everything that your water was tested for – from naturally occurring minerals to man-made substances. Detected levels found during testing, along with the maximum allowable limit set by health regulations are included in the report. Water results within the acceptable range means it’s meeting or exceeding the strict water quality standards. Now that sounds like an A+ effort.

Check your local water agencies’ report card to learn more.
Reviewing your Consumer Confidence Report (water quality report card) helps you stay informed and confident about the water flowing from its source to your tap. Take a moment to review the report, reach out to your water provider with any questions, and trust that your water is being carefully monitored every day.
